Frequently Asked Questions
How are teams formed?
Competitive teams are formed using the U11–U19 age group structure based on each player’s birth year in accordance with the current Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) age group guidelines. Placement is determined through evaluations and tryouts to help ensure players are placed in the appropriate developmental environment.
Include your OYSA age chart directly below this section visually if possible.
Are tryouts required?
Yes. Competitive tryouts are typically held each year in May for the upcoming soccer season. While primary tryouts may have concluded, MVSC may still consider player placement opportunities throughout the year depending on team availability and roster needs. Families interested in joining after tryouts are encouraged to contact us for additional information.
Can beginners join competitive soccer?
Our competitive program is generally intended for players with prior soccer experience due to the level of training, competition, and commitment involved. For players who are newer to the sport or still exploring their development path, MVSC also offers recreational programs designed to help athletes build skills and confidence in a supportive environment.
How much travel is involved?
Travel varies by team, age group, and league placement. Most league matches take place within the local and surrounding areas, though teams may also travel throughout Oregon for league play, tournaments, and special events during the season.
Are scholarships or financial assistance available?
MVSC believes every child should have the opportunity to play soccer regardless of financial circumstances. Limited scholarships and financial assistance may be available based on need and funding availability. Families are encouraged to contact us confidentially for additional information.
